The fire was reported to have started from the second floor of a crowded house inside the University of the Philippines campus in Quezon City. However, the cause of the fire was not known.

It took about two hours to put out the blaze, according to AFP, quoting senior fire officer Greg Bichaider.

Bichaida said the victims could not escape from their homes as the fire spread quickly. Six of the dead were children. However, he did not give any details about their age.

The Philippines is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. The capital, Queens City, and other nearby cities have a population of about 13 million. As it is a densely populated country, fires often break out here.
