In Australia, the latest addition to its fibre-optic network is a new technology called G.fast. This will improve the performance of last-mile copper connections while expanding their frequency range
Adtran is a leading provider of open networking and disaggregated communications equipment, and it is working with TPG Telecom on the rollout of its G.Fast FTTB services.
The Australian Telco has recently separated its retail and wholesale arm to focus on superfast broadband services. In addition, TPG’s recent ACCC undertaking to separate the retail and wholesale arm of the company allows the Telco more flexibility to increase its fixed-line footprint, a critical component of its competitive strategy in Australia.
It can deliver download speeds of up to 1000Mbps – 10 times faster than NBN Co’s FTTB network.
The launch of the new G.fast technology means wholesale customers within TPG Telecom’s FTTB footprint can now access download speeds up to 10 times faster than those currently offered across NBN Co’s FTTB network.
The new service is available in 2000 premises across Australia, with the first phase launching in New South Wales and Queensland. TPG Telecom is also planning to roll out higher speed tiers on its cable network and VDSL networks.
In addition to the tiers, it has also announced plans to expand its footprint in Western Australia and South Australia. With the addition of G.fast, TPG Telecom has a new competitive advantage. The new service is available to consumers and wholesalers for a discounted price.
The two plans are:
- 250mbps download / 50mbps upload
- Max (up to 990 mbps) download / 50mbps upload
In addition, TPG’s recent ACCC undertaking to separate the retail and wholesale arm of the company allows the Telco more flexibility to increase its fixed-line footprint, a critical component of its competitive strategy in Australia.
“We think the launch of G.Fast is a game-changer for our wholesale business and customers. We are not only offering some of the fastest broadband speeds available in Australia today, but we have a straight-forward pricing structure, which means it is easier than ever to deliver superfast broadband to customers,” said TPG Telecom Group Executive Wholesale, Enterprise and Government, Jonathan Rutherford.
