Bathtubs: Comparing Different Types

129

While many of us are accustomed to taking a daily shower, a bathtub provides a relaxing experience at home that can’t be matched. If you’re thinking of adding a bathtub when you renovate your bathroom, then you may want to know the different types available. Here are a few of the bathtub types that go beyond the standard generic bathtub found in most homes.

A Tub To Soak In

To fully enjoy a proper bath (especially as an adult), you will need a deeper tub so that you can immerse your entire body into the tub. This style comes in many variations, such as a copper clawfoot tub, cast iron tub, or other vintage-styled tubs. These will provide a better bathing experience when compared to generic bathtubs, which are usually more shallow. They also add an aesthetically pleasing touch to the interior design of your bathroom

Walk-In Bathtubs: For Fewer Accidents

Many people have trouble getting into and out of bathtubs. This is particularly a problem for people who have joint and bone problems. Ironically, these are the same people who would likely benefit from a good long soak in a tub of hot water. For them, walk-in bathtubs are the perfect solution. They usually have a door which is equipped with a water tight seal to ensure no water gets out when the tub is full. These tubs need to be drained before the person walks out of them—or else there would be an awful mess to deal with!

Hot Tubs, air tubs, and Whirlpools

The ultimate bathing experience is undoubtedly to combine the hot water with a massaging sensation. For that, you can opt for a hot tub, air tub, or a whirlpool. If you’re unsure about the difference between the three, here’s a breakdown:

  • Hot tubs are not meant to be drained after each use, and contain a heating element that must be kept on at all times to ensure that the water is at the correct temperature. They usually have water jets which are part of the filtration system and also provide a massaging sensation.
  • Air tubs resemble regular bath tubs but contain small air jets at the bottom and a heating element to ensure water stays warm/hot for an extended period of time. They must be drained after each use.
  • Whirlpool tubs are also similar to regular bathtubs in that water must be drained after each use, because they do not contain a filtration system. However, they are equipped with water jets that create a whirlpool in the tub, providing a full body massage.

As you can see, there is a variety of bathtub types and styles to choose from. You may also want to consider the material used in manufacturing the bathtub. Acrylic tubs are the most modern, but they are less durable and not as aesthetically pleasing as old-style cast iron tubs that are well-known for being practically indestructible. No matter which type of tub you choose, you’re guaranteed to have a relaxing experience when you soak in the bathtub, especially if you add essential oils about the latest news.
