Today we will learn how to sow one of the fruits that in my opinion is one of the most versatile and rich of all, the seedless Lemon Plant , I will try to teach you everything I know in an easy and simple way about the methods for germinating the seed, the transparent of a lemon tree and reproduction without seeds in case of having Persian lemons.
Lemon trees are a welcome addition to any family garden, backyard or open garden, they have a refreshing citrus aroma when they grow and bear fruit, and they adapt very well to the available space, being able to grow in a pot or in the ground.
Let’s see how to plant lemon trees efficiently, with the two possible methods.
How to germinate and sow lemon seeds
One of the two methods of growing a lemon tree is through the seeds found in the fruit and it is the preferred method of growing potted lemons. The steps to follow to germinate lemon seeds with water and plant are:
- Get the seeds
Since lemons have spread to practically all parts of the world with a tropical or Mediterranean climate , it is not uncommon to find variants of all kinds. We will get fresh seeds, preferably from a recent harvest and from nearby areas so as not to have growth problems due to the weather. - Dry the seeds
We will wash the seeds very well after extracting them from the lemon very carefully, to make sure that there are no residues of pulp left in them. Once this is done, we will dry them with the help of absorbent paper. - Soak the seeds with water
To help in germination, we will soak the seeds in a glass of water . The foolproof trick of soaking sheets of kitchen paper to cover them also works. This will last approximately a week and must be moistened with a spreader or sprinkled daily, when the outbreak begins, it must be transplanted. - Prepare a pot or seedbed
We will prepare in a pot or a homemade seedbed with coconut fiber, which is the best for this crop. If there is no coconut fiber you don’t have to break your head, get some permeable soil, which drains very well, it can be peat or perlite. When extreme case, potting soil enriched with organic content (black soil) . - Sow
We will plant the lemon sprout in the pot, always remembering the point downwards, making a hole at least 1cm or ½ inch deep, with the help of the finger or any gardening tool. We water moderately to moisten the soil. - Water the substrate when it dries
The substrate should be soaked when it feels very dry and we will place the pot or seedbed in a place that has a lot of light, although in the first phases of growth it is best not to expose it directly to the sun since it can scorch the seedling.
Once the silver presents the first two leaves and is about 10 or 15cm long , it is ready to be planted in the final soil. It can be a large aceta of about 25 or 30 cm.
