In shooting, having precision and accuracy is the most fundamental requirement. What use is shooting if you can not hit your target?
There is one more thing that you need to have if you practice rifle shootings. That would be your shooting speed.
If you shoot accurately but need time to aim, you are wasting a lot of time.
Thus, you should optimize all these things to become a successful shooter. This is why rifle shooters use accessories with their weapons.
These are scopes that allow them to aim with greater precision and accuracy. In this way, they also save a lot of time and become proficient shooters.
As for the scopes, there are many options available. Riflescopes are of different types and boost speed and accuracy in different ways.
However, some of these scopes are more commonly used by people. These are the Red Dot Sights and LPVO scopes.
Low Power Variable Scopes (LPVOs)
This kind of scope has a reticle on it which you can use to aim. The reticle is visible at any time so you don’t need any other source of light. However, it can be a little problematic under dark conditions especially at night.
To remove this, LPVO comes with a luminous source that runs on a battery. This greatly improves the vision for aiming. However, LPVOs have a slight disadvantage which is their limited vision.
You need to place your eye in a fixed region to aim accurately. Otherwise, the reticle becomes partially or completely invisible. Thus, you are unable to land an accurate shot.
This region also depends on the magnification you are using with the LPVO.
If the magnification is on 1x, you have a fair amount of eye space for aiming. This greatly improves the aim in close-range combat and can even go up to red dot scopes.
However, at long ranges, the apace becomes smaller so you have to aim carefully.
Even though it takes time, it is still an improvement over the red dot. This is because the red dot scope is only suitable for close combat and is impossible to use at long ranges.
However, with an LPVO, you can shoot accurately at medium to long ranges depending on your skill.
Red Dot Scope:
Red Dots are also one of the most popular scopes, used by shooters all around the world. You might even have seen its use in movies. The shooter aims simply by pointing the red laser at the target.
In this way, you can precisely hit your target at the desired place.
The red dot is very effective in close combat situations where you have limited space. It is also very effective in spaces where your eye position can pose a problem with other scopes.
All in all, the red dot scope is the best option you can choose for close combat.
However, this does not mean that the red dot does not have any disadvantages. Even though the battery of the laser has a long life, it can still die out.
In that case, you would be without a scope in the middle of a fight or a shooting session. And most people find it inconvenient to carry around spare batteries with them.
There is one more flaw with the red dot scope. That is you need to have eyes without any problems.
For instance, if you have astigmatism, you will see the dot as a blurry line. Hence, the accuracy of your aim will take a toll.
Comparison:
- The red dot is much easier and faster to use in close-quarters combat. You can use an LPVO at many different ranges including short-distance.
- Battery life is way longer than LPVO’s. But if the battery dies out, you can still use the reticle on LPVO.
- Vision is limited to a small space in the case of LPVO. But that is not a problem for red dot scopes.
- The reticle in an LPVO is visible to any person. However, eyes with astigmatism can have a problem using the red dot.
- LPVO is very expensive when you compare it to a red dot scope.
- Red dot scope is convenient to carry around with its less weight and size. An LPVO is bulky and comparatively heavier than a red dot scope.
Wrapping It All Up!
Both of the mentioned scopes are superior in different areas. The red dot can cover some weaknesses of the Red Dot scope and vice versa. As for which one is better, that is a decision entirely up to you.
Make sure that you know your requirements and buy the scope which fits them. After all, their users have greatly approved both of them.
